ABOUT US

Our program started in 1993 in California and quickly spread nationwide by eleven-year old Jon Wagner-Holtz after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. He was feeling alone.

The success of our programs lies in the tears of a child being wiped away by a caring friend and in the quiet ‘thanks’ of a sick parent that can worry less about the emotional stress their illness has on their children.

OUR GOAL

Kids Konnected was developed on the premise that when a parent gets cancer, the entire family is affected and the needs of the children must be addressed. Our programs started in California and soon spread nationwide.

WHAT WE DO

Through our yearly summer camps, youth leadership, support groups, and events, Kids Konnected is there for you during the difficult and happy times as you go through your unique cancer experience within your family.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Kids Konnected is to provide friendship, understanding, education, and support for kids and teens who have a parent with cancer or have lost a parent with cancer.

OUR HISTORY

Kids Konnected was developed on the premise that when a parent gets cancer, the entire family is affected and the needs of the children must be addressed. Our programs started in California and soon spread nationwide. Eleven-year old Jon Wagner-Holtz established Kids Konnected in 1993 after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. He was feeling alone in the wake of his mother’s diagnosis and was interested in talking with kids his age going through the same experience.  Jon approached Susan G. Komen, Orange County who graciously granted him $250 to start a hotline from his house that would enable him to reach other kids in the community affected by cancer. Originally known as Komen Kids, Kids Konnected grew quickly and was granted a 501c3 non-profit corporation status in 1997. Jon says, “The success of our programs lies in the tears of a child being wiped away by a caring friend and in the quiet ‘thanks’ of a sick parent that can worry less about the emotional stress their illness has on their children.” Kids helping kids is what we’re all about. Because of our “Konnection” you don’t have to be alone anymore.

WE EXIST BECAUSE OF YOU

KidsKonnected has been helping families, teenagers, and children impacted by cancer since 1993 with support from people like you.  We are a nimble nonprofit organization that desperately needs ongoing support to be able to fund the various activities we host to support families impacted by Cancer.

Thank you for learning about KidsKonnected and helping us help children.
